So last blog I told you I had help finding my birthfamily....well, that's absolutely true.
Back when I went looking in 1993, most of the adoptions of 20 years prior were closed adoptions. I'm not sure what they are today, but back then, if you went looking, you probably wouldn't find out anything.
I think the women who were pregnant and decided not to keep their child/ren were told they could do all of this in privacy and that the child would never even know.
When I think about that, I think 2 things:
1: How could someone tell ME that I wasn't allowed to know something as basic as who my birthfamily is
2: NOBODY was going to tell ME I couldn't figure something out!
I know I'm lucky, because like I said, I did have a few people who helped out, including the person who worked for the state. She gave me a few details (without giving them to me) that put me on my journey and the rest was up to researching and contacting people.
First thing first: IT JUST SO HAPPENED I HAD A 1/2 BROTHER WHO WAS ADOPTED AND WAS LOOKING AT THE SAME TIME....
More to come!
FOOD IS MEDICINE
Yes, Food IS medicine! What would happen, tho, if we simply didn't have the ability to ABSORB that medicine??
Aaah...Interesting question. Let me make you think for a minute. Do you realize you could have the best diet on the planet with every single color of the rainbow every day, no animal stuff to clog your arteries, plenty of health-causing food (expensive, too...organic even) and still be VERY SICK???
How could that be? Well, there are many ways, but this particular segment is about CHEWING YOUR FOOD. (also known as mastication hehehe)
I see people all the time on Facebook and Pintrest showing off their smoothie recipes and there are usually a couple of reasons I facepalm.
The first reason is they're usually full of crazy amounts of sugar. IF you're going to juice, please make sure the ratio is 3/4 vegetable to 1/4 fruit. "BUT I FEEL SO GOOD AFTER I JUICE!!!" of course you do...you just inhaled 5 days worth of sugar!!!!
The second reason is that when you remove the fiber from the equation, you're changing the properties of how the food was supposed to go into your body in the first place. So now you don't have to chew. Well that's convenient, right? :) We humans are so lazy. My psychology teacher called it "the human law of least effort."
WHY SHOULD YOU CHEW YOUR FOOD?
Easy- Enzymes. Your body is an incredible machine, and it knows exactly what to do to make it work! When you chew your food until it's liquid, you create enzymes that flow down into your intestines to help that food break down into nutrients. When you don't chew, a lot of that food will pass thru without the nutrients being deposited.
From my learnings, chewing 20-30 times each bite is ideal. I've also read that chewing 50 times can alkalize almost anything!
Here's another fabulous article to help you out on your chewing adventures!! http://nutritionstudies.org/time-chew-digestive-system-starts-mouth/
This recipe hails from www.nutritionstudies.org, and it's INCREDIBLE if you want something to dip your veggies into that is HEALTHY (look up the benefits of hempseed!!) and tasty!!

This dressing was created with kids and ranch dressing-lovers in mind. It is oil, gluten and soy free.
1 cup filtered water
1 cup shelled hemp seeds
¾ tsp salt
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice or apple cider vinegar
½ tsp dry dill or 1 Tbsp fresh dill
2 Tbsp fresh chives, snipped with scissors
Place all ingredients except dill and chives in a high speed blender (Vitamix/Nutribullet) and blend on high for 30 seconds.
Add dill and chives. Use on salads, baked potatoes, as a veggie dip or wherever you use ranch dressing. Put the dressing in a glass jar and shake to serve.
