I'm going to take a break for a while about my life journey and focus on some topics I'd like to share with you.
In my 44 years of life (I know to some that's ancient, and to others I'm still a baby) I have come across some lessons and information I feel are critical to a happy life if you live in the United States. It's my intention to share every one of those, and hopefully help someone along the way.
My topic today is Feeding Yourself. I chose this topic, because, hey...you know that a website like "let food fix it" is all about some food, right? Absolutely true! What you don't know is it's not all about the stuff you put in your mouth!
When's the last time you listened to the radio? Did you hear the 30 second advertisements? Probably "not." I say "not" because your body listens even if you're not doing it consciously. Next thing you know you're dialing Pizza hut for lunch!
Ever watch TV? I'm sure you've seen an ad for viagra LOL You've also seen ads for things like medications for excessive salivation! Really???? LOL (On a side note, how come everything that happens naturally with the body has become something that needs to be treated? LOL ...topic for another day)
My point is you are feeding yourself information.
When's the last time you watched a horror movie? You just fed yourself fear.
When's the last time you watched a sappy movie and needed tissue because the fountains that were your eyes just wouldn't stop? You just fed yourself sadness.
Now, I'm not saying that will kill you. BUT I will say that unless something catastrophic happens, those things will become part of you.
I encourage you to watch COMEDY. They always say "laughter is the best medicine" Well, I say "Let food be thy medicine" (Hippocrates) But laughter helps as well!
I encourage you to turn off the radio and listen to a cd or get a program like sirius where you do not subject your mind to those advertisements.
I encourage you to stay away from the television shows that are full of advertisements or get some kind of program with your cable company where you can skip them. Hulu and Netflix are great fixes for this.
What happens when you do these things is this: You are FREE! When your mind is free from all of the political propaganda and advertisements this country has to offer, you're now a different person than everyone else!
You make up your own mind about what you want for dinner!
(that's important, because the body craves things that it needs...)
You don't have the need to "ask your doctor if (Medicine inserted here) is right for you!"
You chill out a bit, because you're not constantly bombarded. Your mind gets to rest :)
You free your mind up to focus on something else, like reading a book or playing a game or imagine this: go outside! :)
Just try it! Give yourself an ad-free life for 30 days and see what it's like! You'll never go back :)
Hey, did you see what I did there?
The founder of my school has said that if someone eats too many nuts, they're a little bit nutty. There may be some merit to that, the jury is still out LOL
But one thing I CAN tell you is that most of you don't eat nuts daily!
If you do, then stop right now and pat yourself on the back :)
According to this study by the CDC, only about 38 percent of us eat nuts daily. Much of that is taken in the form of nut butters.
Here's where I tell you everything I've learned about nuts! I'll just GO NUTS lol
1) Eat ORGANIC nuts! Particularly peanuts and peanut butter. Why? Peanuts are under the ground, and the pesticides literally soak into them. I am of the opinion that synthetic pesticides are NOT meant to be inside of the human body.
2) Nuts contain minerals! Dr Greger of the book "How not to Die" says to eat 4 brazil nuts a month to make sure you're getting your regular dose of selenium. (Don't take in more than that because you can overdose on selenium)
*If you're one of the unfortunate souls who is allergic to nuts, obviously I'm not going to encourage you to eat them. BUT you might talk with your doctor about seeing an allergist about treatments. Even if it's not available right now, there is incredible work being done in this field and you should check in from time to time with your allergist!
Here's some great information about that: (so you know I'm not just nuts!....had to..just one last time....)
